"Tango del Sur sounds urban, feverish, serious and playful at the same time, just like contemporary urban tango should.“

Arne Birkenstock
(author of 'Tango. History and Stories.' and director of the cinema documentary '12 Tangos')

The German ensemble Tango del Sur is renowned for its passionate interpretation of the Argentine tango tradition. Founded by musicians deeply influenced by the artistry of Astor Piazzolla as well as other tango legends (such as Pablo Ziegler, Lalo Schifrin and Juan José Mosalini), the ensemble infuses their performances with a unique blend of authenticity and innovation. Through their masterful arrangements and virtuosity, the quintet captivates audiences with the soul-stirring rhythms and melodies of the tango, transporting listeners to the vibrant streets of Buenos Aires with each note.

Tango del Sur is Heinz Hox (accordion), Naomi Binder (violin), Ludger Ferreiro (piano), Thomas Falke (double bass) and Bojan Vuletić (guitar) - five professional soloists who have also made a name for themselves in other musical contexts. With musical power and a sensitive feel for the tango rush and its melancholy, Tango del Sur delights its audiences on numerous concert stages and festivals.

Ensemble

Heinz Hox - accordion

Heinz Hox studied in Duisburg, Dortmund, Hilversum and Maastricht. As a soloist and in ensembles, he played on international tours and concerts as well as on many albums by well-known artists. He directed various musicals and worked as a composer and musician in many theaters. As a studio musician, he excels in many styles - from folk music to film music to free jazz, but his love is jazz and tango. Influenced and inspired by his musical diversity, he developed his very own tone on the accordion. Hox gives workshops with a focus on playing technique, stylistics and conducting.

Naomi Binder - violin

Naomi Binder received her first violin lessons from Kunihiko Kurosaki in Vienna and Takeshi Yamamoto in Kobe, Japan. She was a young student at the Wiener Musikhochschule with Prof. Günther Pichler and completed concert studies with Prof. Klaus Maetzl and chamber music studies with Prof. Walter and Prof. Rainer Schmidt in Basel. She gained orchestral experience in well-known orchestras such as the WDR Symphony Orchestra, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn and the Orquestra le Palau, Valencia.
As a soloist she performed at ORF, Circus Roncalli, Brecht Festival Augsburg, Konzerthaus Dortmund, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and Schauspiel Köln. Engagements as a concertmaster led to concerts throughout Germany. She has worked with renowned pop acts but also with ensembles from other genres.

Ludger Ferreiro - piano

Ludger Ferreiro trained as a concert pianist at the music academies in Frankfurt am Main and Düsseldorf and then expanded his musical skills by studying jazz in the Netherlands.
His concerts took him to all major German cities as well as to Norway, Spain, Austria and the Netherlands. One focus of his work lies on Spanish flamenco. He worked intensively with the dancer Blanca Nieves, the guitarist Rayko Schlee and the singer Enrique Correas. The center of his artistic work is Argentine tango - traditional (with the Berlin quartet Nochero) and improvisational and modern with Tango del Sur. In 2023 he received a scholarship from the Berlin Senatefor his piano cycle 'Prayers without Words'.

Thomas Falke - double bass

After studying at the Cologne University of Music, Thomas Falke has been working as a freelance double bass player for over twenty years. The spectrum of his activities ranges from early to classical music (as a permanent member of the Kölner Kammerorchester and the Neues Rheinischen Kammerorchester) to ensembles (including the Köster Hocker Band, Jazzmagazinand Neuzeit). His interest in historical performance practice and old instruments regularly leads to guest engagements for the NeuesOrchester and the Kölner Akademie. Falke has been teaching at the Musikschule des Kölner Domchores since 2015.

Bojan Vuletic - guitar

Bojan Vuletić is an internationally working artist with degrees in physics, guitar and composition. Musical collaborations connect him with many international soloists, but also with large orchestras such as the WDR Big Band, the Metropolitan Cathedral Choir Liverpool, the Duisburger Philharmoniker and the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker. Vuletić realized solo exhibitions and in collaboration with other artists, e. g. at documenta 12 Kassel and La Biennale di Venezia 2019. He composed and was musical director for over 60 international contemporary dance and theater pieces. In addition to his artistic work, Bojan Vuletić is the founder and director of the asphalt festival (with co-director Christof Seeger-Zurmühlen). Besides international guest lectureships, he held a substitute professorship in 2016/17 at the BAUHAUS Universität Weimar in the master's program Art in public space and new artistic strategies.
